AFTERCARE

Congratulation on your new tattoo!

Now is time to make sure that it will heal correctly. As every person’s skin is different and all type of complications can occur during the healing stage, we recommend you follow the advice of your artist and follow the simple steps described in this section.

  • + If your tattoo is wrapped in plastic foil, the foil can be removed on the day of the appointment before going to sleep. Remember to rinse the tattoo with water ( NO soap ), and tap it dry with paper towels.

+ From the following day, rinse the tattoo with water 2-3 times a day and, each time apply a thin layer of the recommended ointment or aftercare cream. Make sure to never apply too much ointment as it could clog your pores and cause irritation.

+ Repeat these steps for the first 10-14 days. Afterwards your tattoo should have started healing properly and it’s more important to make sure your skin doesn’t get too dry. Continue applying an ointment a few times a day or as much as necessary for your skin-type.

+ After 4-5 weeks your tattoo should be completely healed and you could schedule a new appointment for a touch-up if you think is necessary.

+ Redness and swelling are normal for the first 4-5 days after your appointment. If these symptoms continue afterward, contact us, your artist or, in extreme cases, your doctor.

  • + Some artists prefer using Second Skin after your appointment.

+ Leave the second skin on for 1-2 days. If the second skin starts coming off before then, and part of your tattoo is already exposed, you can already remove it.

+ Remove the second skin slowly while in the shower. The water will help melt the adhesive.

+ The second skin could fill up with blood and ink. Don’t worry! This is totally normal and the tattoo is safe.

+ From then on, rinse the tattoo with water 2-3 times a day and and each time apply a thin layer of the recommended ointment or aftercare cream. Make sure to never apply too much ointment as it could clog your pores and cause irritation.

  • Your tattoo is an open wound, so make sure to take care of it as such.

+ Avoid sunbathing, tanning, swimming, bathing and saunas.

+ Avoid heavy work out sessions for the first days following your tattoo appointment. During the healing stage, make sure to rinse any sweat from the tattoo after a work out to avoid it drying over your fresh tattoo.

+ Avoid heavy alcohol consumption in the 24 hours following you tattoo session.

+ Do not pick or scratch your tattoo.

+ Make sure you’re hands are cleaned when taking care of your tattoo. To dry your tattoo, use paper towels, as fabric one could still host bacteria even if properly washed.

+ Avoid clothes that can be too tight or made of heavier fabrics during the healing stage. Clothes made of natural light fibers are the best ones to make sure no rushes will occur.
